What Information the AI Receives
We believe you should know exactly what data is shared with AI. Here's the complete picture.
What IS sent to Claude AI
For each transaction that needs AI categorization:
- Merchant name — e.g., "STARBUCKS", "ADOBE CREATIVE CLOUD"
- Amount — e.g., -15.42
That's it. Two fields per transaction.
What is NOT sent
- Your name
- Your account number
- Transaction dates
- Full transaction descriptions
- Your bank name
- Your address
- Your email
- Your IP address
- Any other identifying information
Additional safeguards
- Merchant names are stripped of long digit sequences (8+ digits) before sending
- Transactions are sent in batches without any linking information
- The AI response contains only category assignments — no data is echoed back
- Rate limiting prevents abuse (10 requests/minute for free users, 30 for paid)
Known merchant bypass
If GigBooks already knows the merchant (from your corrections or global patterns), the AI isn't called at all. This means many transactions are categorized with zero data leaving your browser.
