Terms of Service
Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using GigBooks ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and subscribers.
Description of Service
GigBooks is an AI-powered expense categorization tool designed for Canadian freelancers and gig workers. The Service helps users organize bank and credit card transactions into CRA T2125-compliant expense categories and generate reports.
GigBooks is an organizational tool only. It is not a tax advisor, accountant, or financial professional. AI-generated categorizations are suggestions and may contain errors. You are solely responsible for verifying the accuracy of all categorizations and ensuring CRA compliance. Consult a qualified tax professional before filing.
Account & Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service.
- You may use GigBooks without creating an account. Anonymous usage stores data only in your browser's local storage.
- If you create an account, you are responsible for maintaining the security of your login credentials and for all activity under your account.
- You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account and to keep it up to date.
Subscription & Payments
- GigBooks offers paid subscription plans: Plus ($18/month), Max ($29/month), and Tax Season Pass ($49 one-time). Prices are in Canadian dollars and may change with notice.
- All payments are processed securely through Stripe. GigBooks does not store your payment card details.
- Monthly subscriptions renew automatically. You may cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact support@gigbooks.ca within 14 days of a charge to request a refund.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data from the Service.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service's infrastructure or other users' access.
- Exceed published rate limits for the AI categorization API (10 requests/minute for anonymous users, 30 for authenticated users).
- Upload files containing malicious code or content unrelated to financial transactions.
Intellectual Property
GigBooks and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by GigBooks and are protected by Canadian and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You retain full ownership of your data. Any transaction data you upload, categorizations you create, and reports you generate remain yours. We claim no ownership over your content.
Privacy & Data
Your privacy is fundamental to how GigBooks is built. CSV files are parsed entirely in your browser — raw transaction data never touches our servers. Only anonymized merchant names and amounts are sent for AI categorization.
For full details on how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently destroyed within 24 hours.
Disclaimers
- GigBooks is for organizational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional accounting, tax advisory, or financial planning services.
- AI categorizations are suggestions based on merchant names and transaction patterns. They may be inaccurate. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying all categorizations before using them for tax filing.
- Information about partial deductibility (e.g., 50% for meals and entertainment, business-use percentages for vehicles and home offices) is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute tax advice.
- CRA compliance is your responsibility. Always consult a qualified tax professional before filing your taxes.
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, GigBooks and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.
GigBooks shall not be liable for any incorrect categorizations, tax filing outcomes, CRA assessments, penalties, or interest that may result from reliance on the Service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to GigBooks in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. You may delete your account from your account settings, and all associated data will be permanently destroyed within 24 hours.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, including for violation of these Terms.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users by email.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the federal laws of Canada and the laws of the Province of Ontario, without regard to conflict of law principles.
