How to Upload PDF Bank Statements

GigBooks can also parse PDF bank and credit card statements directly. This is useful when your bank doesn't offer CSV exports or you have saved statements as PDFs.

Supported banks (built-in parsers)

These banks have dedicated parsers for fast, accurate extraction:

  • Scotiabank — chequing and credit card statements
  • TD Canada Trust — business chequing statements
  • RBC — Visa and chequing statements
  • BMO — Mastercard and chequing statements
  • CIBC — chequing statements

How it works

  1. Upload your PDF file using the same drag-and-drop or file picker on the Upload tab
  2. Provide consent to extract your transaction data via the check box
  3. GigBooks detects the bank and extracts transactions using a built-in parser
  4. If no built-in parser matches, GigBooks uses AI extraction, generates a parser and saves it for next time
  5. The parser is then used for future uploads of the same bank statement format so its never sent to Anthropic AI again

AI extraction

For unsupported PDF formats, GigBooks uses Anthropic AI to extract transactions. Before doing this:

  • Your statement text is automatically redacted by GigBooks on upload — names, account numbers, and addresses are removed
  • Only merchant names and amounts are sent to the AI

Tips

  • PDF statements must be downloaded directly from your bank in order to work
  • Scanned, photographed or Save as PDF statements will not work (they contain images, not text)
  • Self redacted PDFs will not work as most are password-protected so you can't save them
